The Kenner City Council meets today to consider spending $12,000 on a wall listing the names of Kenner's elected officials, and letting Rivertown businesses near churches sell alcohol. The meeting begins at 5 p.m. at City Hall, 1801 Williams Blvd.

  • The idea of creating a memorial to politicians caused a stir when NOLA.com published a story about it Monday. The money comes from the Jefferson Parish Historical Commission and the nonprofit Kenner City Events Inc.
  • Kenner now prohibits alcoholic beverage outlets within 300 feet of a house of worship, library, playground or school. Rivertown is home to several churches, and an administration official said the proposed change is designed to let its publicly owned, privately managed theaters sell wine to audience members at their plays.
