What the Hell is This Blog All About, Anyway? ? Bobby Rock's Weblog

From time to time, I like to submit an ?anchor? post, just to encapsulate what the hell it is that we attempt to do with this blog.? Here?s the latest version:

Whether it?s about music, drumming, writing, health and fitness, veganism, philosophy, activism, or pretty much anything else I?m into, the mind/body/spirit trinity exists everywhere and in everything.

For me, these past few years have been about delving further into this connection and seeking to evolve in all ways possible, through a variety of mediums. It?s a daily adventure that I find so exhilarating, it usually keeps me up all night. ?My hope for this blog is that it can be the ultimate hub for all of my work, with a focus on our continual, collective evolution.

As a result ? to anyone just joining us ??you might find as you peruse the archives or scope out some of the upcoming entries, that we cover a rather wide terrain at this blog: health and nutrition, exercise and fitness, the mind/body connection, music/art/creativity-related things, veganism, animal advocacy and environmental issues, and more.? At times, it might appear as though we?re all over the place, with not much more to guide the way than our current theme; ?Living Large From the Mind, Body and Spirit.?

But to me, ?mind, body and spirit? isn?t just some worn-out new-age catchphrase.? It actually represents the three interconnected parts of our being.? And if we are to truly live fully from this integrated space, then we would do well to explore issues and ideas from all the various aspects of this trinity.

That?s why I believe that, indeed, everything?s connected, and there?s less need these days for all of this radical compartmentalization between the various sectors of our lives.

Your efforts in the body realm where nutrition, exercise and the mind/body connection are concerned, will pay big dividends in the spirit or artistic realm, where increased energy and a sharp mind will assist your creative work.? At the same time, engaging the immense joy of your creative passions has been shown to quantifiably elevate your levels of total mind/body wellness.? Meanwhile, your overall attention to mindfulness in the mind realm, will factor heavily into the quality of your experience in both the body and spirit realms.? It will also help to raise your consciousness with regard to how your daily actions affect our fellow humans, animals and the planet herself.? Again, everything?s connected.

Many of the entries here are excerpts (edited or otherwise) from one of several different book projects, two in particular: One is called Muscles, Mangos and Meditation, and it deals with superior health and the total mind/body fitness lifestyle.? These entries and excerpts are spread out among three or four related subcategories (like nutrition, exercise, etc.).

The other book is called Zentauria.? It?s written in travelogue/journal form, and details my 11-week adventure living among the world?s most highly-evolved, self-actualized beings, on a small island off the east coast of Africa.? These entries are under the subcategory ?Zentauria.?? (By the way, all subcategories are listed in the upper right-hand column of the blog?s homepage for easy reference.)

Newer to the blog is the category called ?Marathon Training.?? It?s about? you guessed it; the explicit details of my training for my first marathon in March of 2012 here in LA, and my ongoing training for any possible future marathons (including Long Beach in October). ?Thought it might be interesting to offer some documentation of my training efforts, especially since there is so little out there about weight-lifters doing marathons.

Additionally in this blog, I comment on various animal and environmental issues (as they all relate to ?mindful? living), and other relative life happenings and current events as they relate to this rather wide subject matter.? Basically, I feel like anything that gets us either thinking or rethinking is a good thing.

Anyone, of course, is invited to comment on a post whenever they feel compelled.? And while we certainly don?t always have to agree with each other (what fun would that be?), we only ask that you keep the tone of your comments as respectful to all as possible, so this blog can be as constructive and useful to as many as possible.? And I have to say, so far, so good.? I think everyone?s done a great job in this regard, which I?m thrilled about.

And finally, by special request, I plan on experimenting with posting more drumming video excerpts? in a newer section I?ll call, ?Beautiful Drum Music.?? I?m thinking these will be a behind-the-curtain type vibe ? probably direct from the practice room ? very raw, candid and off-the-cuff, and could include almost anything that I might classify as? well, Beautiful Drum Music!

All for now.? Thank you for joining us?
